On the fourth day of the fight against the Russian invader, Ukraine submitted its application for European Union membership with a special expedited procedure. The application entered the process of consideration after it was accepted.

The process has been reduced three- or fourfold. If all conditions are met, Ukraine will be able to join the EU much faster than other countries have done.

When Ukraine can join the EU, it will open up opportunities for cooperation in politics and business at the highest level. The Ukrainian space industry could benefit from this.

Grant funding for space projects will be available to Ukrainians as a result of their membership in the EU. European companies will be able to hire Ukrainian workers without bureaucratic obstacles and conduct joint training.

More than 30 Ukrainian space startups have appeared in the last 10 years, but the legacy of space infrastructure and technology from the Soviet times still exists. The average age of Ukraine's leading space industry stalwarts is over 50 years old. New specialists in the space industry are the focus of the country's education.

Ukraine's accession to the European Space Agency

When it signed its Association Agreement with the bloc, Ukraine began its gradual EU integration.

Business conditions for the Ukrainian space industry were improved by the terms of the Association Agreement. Young startups appeared on the scene as space entrepreneurship moved toward the private sector.

The Association Agreement was created to expand Ukrainian cooperation with the European Space Agency. The head of the State Space Agency of Ukraine believes that the country can enter the European Space Agency. The State Space Agency presented its plans to make Ukraine's accession a reality.

We have a plan for accession and are working closely with the European Space Agency.

The Artemis Accords is a NASA-led lunar exploration and development program that is getting a lot of attention from the European Space Agency. Ukraine will be able to help develop technologies that can be used to create a lunar settlement.

What are Ukrainian space companies bringing to the world?

The world market depends on Ukrainian space production. Since 1950, when the state manufacturing enterprises Yuzhnoye and Yuzhmash were founded, Ukraine has been an important manufacturer of launch vehicles, rocket engines and space equipment.

The first stage for the American Antares rocket is being produced by Yuzhmash. The company will build a launch vehicle that will be used in Canada.

In August of 2021, Yuzhmash sent a model of the first stage of theBeta rocket to the US. In January, Ukraine deployed a satellite. One of the seven Ukrainian satellites that are planned for launch over the next five years was developed by students at the Ihor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute.

The European Space Agency is interested in Yuzhnoye's electric imager. In lunar expeditions, this device will be helpful.

Between 2015 and 2021, there were a number of new private space companies in Ukraine.

SETS develops electric rocket propulsion systems. The Quality Label was given to the company. Flight Control Propulsion is developing rocket engines and other high-tech rocket equipment, while Promin Aerospace is developing a launch vehicle for small satellites.

The companies are based in Dnipro. It has been a major humanitarian factor for refugees fleeing Russian aggression. Russia launched its new invasion. Employees of local space companies are helping to collect aid for the population and the Ukrainian army.

Ukrainian space companies are helping the country and the population by fulfilling their civic duty. "After our victory, this powerful potential will be fully realized," said the co-founder and CEO of Promin.

The Yuzhmash, the Yuzhnoye Design Bureau and private Ukrainian space companies will receive orders from the European Space Agency if Ukraine succeeds in joining the European Union.

We will become full-fledged players in the European market. We compete with space systems on the same level. We are weaker in other areas. Each country in Europe has its own focus and specializations.
