Another order has been placed with NASA.
The agency said it had ordered six more missions from the company. NASA placed an order for six more missions with another major provider of supplies to the International Space Station.
In 2016 NASA awarded the two companies the resupply contracts for the next ten years. The third supplier was Sierra Nevada Corporation. NASA has the option to order additional missions as needed, with a minimum of six missions for each supplier. The maximum potential value of all three contracts is fourteen billion dollars, though the final cost to NASA will depend on the number of orders.
The order brings the total number of missions to 32, with 14 going to Northrop, 15 to SpaceX and three to Sierra.
By now, the company is familiar with these flights. The company completed 20 supply missions. According to NASA's inspector general, the total payment for those missions was over $3 billion.
Since the first mission to the station in 2012 the company has used its cargo Dragon and Falcon 9 rockets to deliver supplies. The Dragon will autonomously dock at the station after leaving Earth.
The Crew Dragon capsule is used for crewed missions to the International Space Station.
