According to sources, Steve Prohm is expected to be the next men's basketball coach at Murray State.
Sources said that the two sides were close to a deal.
Prohm was an assistant coach under Billy Kennedy for five years and then the head coach for four seasons.
The Racers won two Ohio Valley regular-season titles under Prohm. He led Murray State to a perfect 16-0 Ohio Valley record in 2015, as well as leading them to the NCAA tournament in 2012 where they beat Colorado State in the first round.
In the title game of the CIT, the Racers beat Yale.
In his first two seasons at Iowa State, Prohm led the team to the NCAA tournament. In his first season, Iowa State reached the Sweet 16 and beat Nevada in the first round. His final two seasons at the helm of the Cyclones were a failure, with a 12-20 record in 2020 and a 2-22 record in the Big 12. He was fired in the spring.
He was 97-95 in six seasons at Iowa State.
Matt McMahon succeeded him in 2015. They went to the NCAA tournament three times and won two games. He was hired as the head coach at LSU.
