A South Carolina Republican candidate backed by former President Trump told a former top official in his administration that he was a "true piece of sh" in a private text unearthed by The State.

The newspaper obtained and reviewed a Monday morning text in which Arrington insulted Mulvaney with a four-letter word.

The State provided a picture of Arrington texting Mulvaney, "You really are a true piece of sh-."

Oh,Ha! You don't know. The former Trump official asked what he should have done.

She said she would not share the texts from last year because she wanted to make you look like a jackass.

She said that you would look like the piece of sh- that you turning out to be.

Mulvaney fired back she might be unstable, and sent a winky emoji after pointing out the problems with her texts.

At one point, Arrington referred to his departure as chief of staff and Mulvaney's appointment as U.S. special envoy for Northern Ireland.

You were fired and sent to Northern Ireland as an Irish catholic.

Mulvaney fired back, "And now we have religion."

Sectarian divides in Northern Ireland between Catholics and Protestants were the root of the Troubles.

You may not be up to the job. It's seriously. The South Carolina candidate replied that it may be time for some deep introspection.

The exchange came close to four hours after NBC News published a story in which Mulvaney weighed in on Arrington's campaign.

The former Trump chief of staff said that she was not the best candidate.

Nancy Mace is being challenged by Arrington. Mace has criticized Trump.

Mulvaney slammed Arrington when he shared The State's story on social media.

After a nasty primary,Katie Arrington lost her seat in the state legislature. Sounds like she hasn't learned much from that.

Chris D'Anna, a spokesman for Arrington's campaign, alleged that Mulvaney had leaked the text message exchange and called him and Mace.

Mick leaking the contents of a private conversation is disappointing. Mick Mulvaney and Nancy Mace teaming up together is par for the course, considering they both used President Trump to advance their own careers, only to stab him in the back.

The Hill reached out to Actum, where Mulvaney is a co-chair.
