Wordle's hard mode is not just what everyone thought it was after the New York Times bought it, but is actually a setting you can change.
We have been playing Wordle on easy mode. Hard mode might make the game easier to play in the long run.
It is pretty straightforward. The settings icon is in the top right corner of the page when you are about to play Wordle. You can switch to hard mode and be off and away.

Good question. In my opinion, hard mode doesn't make Wordle harder. It stops you from making silly mistakes.
It makes sure that any revealed hints are used in subsequent guesses. If you enter a word that doesn't contain the hints you've gathered, you'll get a pop up to know about the errors of your ways. It prevents you from submitting an incorrect word. It means that you don't waste a try guessing a word that doesn't have a green or yellow letter.
