Apple's upcoming MacBook Air redesign has been extensively reported, but new information suggests it may come in two sizes. According to the latest quarterly report from Display Supply Chain Consultants, Apple is working on a 15-inch version of the laptop to sit alongside the 13-inch model, which may itself get a slightly larger screen as well.
According to the analyst, mass production is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2023. The laptop is being designed to use the same 30W power source as the MacBook Air, which would put it below the latest MacBook Pro machines in terms of power consumption. This new laptop might not be called MacBook Air, which is more of a question of branding than anything else, and is likely to be in the realm of speculation for a product that is so far out.
Apple considered making a 15-inch MacBook Air with the 13-inch redesign, but decided against it, according to a report.
Apple has not offered lower-end laptops in larger screen sizes for a long time. You have to go back to the days of the iBook G4 and PowerBook G4 to find a non-Pro Apple laptop with a screen size over 13 inches. A MacBook Air-class device with a larger display could be a popular option for users who want the extra screen real estate but don't need the performance of a 16-inch MacBook Pro.
