Supreme Court nominee Ketanji Brown Jackson meets with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Ky., on Capitol Hill, Wednesday, March 2, 2022, in Washington.

McConnell said he would vote against Jackson's nomination to the Supreme Court.

Jackson, the first Black woman to ever be nominated to the nation's most powerful court, went through confirmation hearings this week.

I had a good time meeting the nominee. I went into the process with an open mind. He said that after studying the nominee's record and watching her performance this week, he couldn't support her for a lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court.

He criticized Jackson's refusal to publicly oppose the possibility of expanding the number of seats on the Supreme Court, saying: "I assumed this would be an easy softball for Judge Jackson, but it wasn't."

Jackson has a relatively small track record of rulings for senators to study, compared to the three Supreme Court appointees of Donald Trump, according to McConnell. For decades, activist judges have hurt the country by trying to make policy from the bench.

He said that judicial philosophy is a key qualification that senators must consider. Judge Jackson has been on the D.C. Circuit for less than a year. She has only published two opinions.

McConnell, who voted against confirmation of Jackson to her current role on the federal appeals court in Washington, D.C., had previously called for an "exhaustive review" of Jackson.

Before the Senate review began, he gave a critical assessment of her recent judicial work.

McConnell said last month that she has published a total of two opinions in the last few weeks and that one of her previous rulings was reversed by a unanimous panel of her present colleagues on the D.C. Circuit.

The Supreme Court has been altered in recent years due to McConnell's role.

His handling of Supreme Court vacancies in the presidential election years of 2016 and 2020 were controversial. He was the leader of the GOP's efforts to get judges to the high court.
