North Macedonia pulled off one of the biggest soccer upsets of all time, defeating Italy in the semifinals. Italy is out of the World Cup in 2022.

The game-winning goal was scored by North Macedonia's Aleksandar Trajkovski in the 92nd minute. North Macedonia was a +1700 favorite going into the match. It will face Portugal in the playoffs. North Macedonia is the first team to win road games against Germany and Italy. The squad defeated Germany less than a year ago.

Italy had a perfect home record in World Cup qualification. The team had a perfect record in such contests before the game. Italy missed out on the World Cup for the first time in their history. It is the fourth reigning Euro champion to miss the World Cup.
