The Lapsus$ group is believed to be the reason the City of London Police have arrested seven teenagers.
The City of London Police is investigating members of a hacking group, according to Detective Inspector Michael O' Sullivan of the City of London Police. Our inquiries are still ongoing.
Lapsus$ has taken responsibility for some major security breaches
Lapsus$ is responsible for some of the major security breeches at tech companies. The mastermind of the group is said to be an Oxford teenager. The City of London Police did not say if this teenager was among those arrested.
Brian Krebs reported on Wednesday that at least one member of Lapsus$ was involved with a data breach at the company. Vice said in its own article on Thursday that it was an example of Lapsus's subsequent and massive hacks.
Angry customers revealed the identity of the suspected mastermind. The leader of the group purchased Doxbin, a site where people can share or find personal information of others, but was a poor owner of the site. The Doxbin community retaliated against him after he gave up control in January.
The father of the teenager was unaware of his involvement with the group. He is very good at computers and spends a lot of time on the computer, his father said. We are going to try to stop him from using computers.
The City of London Police statement and additional context about the group have been added.
