The models will be configured with a Core i5-12500H, a Core i7-12700H, or a Core i9-12900HK. They will offer 64GB of memory and 4 terabytes of storage, as well as an old-school 1920 x 1200 non-touch display, in addition to a 3840 x 2400 touchscreen. There is a 3456 x 2160 OLED screen on the XPS 15.

Graphics options are where the two models differ. Both will offer options with integrated graphics from Intel. The XPS 15 is the top of the line, while the XPS 17 can go up to a GeForce RTX 3060. The 3060 SKU won't be available for purchase until April. The 17-incher is 60W, while the 40W options for the XPS 15 are the same.

If expected, the new configurations are welcome. The top models in their categories are targeted to users who want to combine powerful specs with top-notch build quality and don't mind paying over $1,000 for the privilege. Dell has had problems cooling these chips in thin enclosures. If the new 15-incher is able to keep the chips at a reasonable temperature, prospective buyers may want to wait.

The Dell XPS 15 starts at $1,449 and the Dell XPS 17 starts at $1,849.
