As part of her pledge to give away her billions, MacKenzie Scott has announced another round of donations.
Scott, one of the world's richest women and the ex-wife of billionaire Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, has donated $3.86 billion to 465 nonprofits since her last major giving spree announcement in June.
Scott wrote in a Medium post that the team&s focus over the last nine months has included some new areas, but as always their aim has been to support the needs of underrepresented people from groups of all kinds.
Education, housing, health, and Ukraine relief efforts are just some of the groups that receive donations. Some recipients include the Boys and Girls Clubs of America.
Roughly 60 percent of the nonprofits are led by women, and 75% arehelmed by people with lived experience in the regions they support and the issues they seek to address.
Scott wrote that the leadership of people directly experiencing inequalities is essential, both because it is informed by insights no one else can contribute, and because it seeds power and opportunity within the community itself.
Scott has made a total of 1,257 donations since signing the Giving Pledge in May of last year, she wrote in her post. Participants pledge to give away most of their wealth during their lifetimes or in their wills.
Since signing the pledge, she has given more than $12 billion. She announced donations totaling $2.74 billion to 286 organizations in June. In the four months prior to December 2020, Scott gave $4.16 billion to organizations. In July, Scott said she had donated over $1 billion to 116 organizations.
Scott received a 4% stake in Amazon as part of the divorce settlement. When Amazon shares went up in 2020, her net worth went up to $60 billion. According to Forbes, Scott has a net worth of $48.9 billion.
