There is always interest in the 1980s franchise and a live-action Voltron movie is in the works.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Red Notice director Rawson Marshall Thurber is trying to bring the franchise back. Thurber will co-write and direct a new pitch for Voltron, which is currently being shopped around the major studios. According to reports, Warner Bros., Universal, and Amazon are interested in the company. The most recent iteration of the franchise, Voltron: Legendary Defender, is available on the internet. To be fair, the live-action Gundam project is similar to the one being worked on by Netflix.
A deal could be struck by the end of the week and then it is just a matter of writing the script and getting to work. Thurber might have to make a Red Notice sequel or two before moving on to another project.
With so many popular animated series getting live-action remakes these days, you understand why Voltron, which has been around for 40 years, would be a good choice. It is an awesome concept that is ripe for big-screen shenanigans. For decades, filmmakers have tried and failed to make this happen, the most recent being back in 2016 Will Thurber be able to get all five lions into one? We will find out soon enough.
Lego made a cool Voltron a few years back, and we love this live-action Voltron fan film, but it is out of print. There are many ways to scratch that itch for giant robots while we wait for this one.
