In September of 2021, the TSA and Apple announced that they were working on a way for travelers to use their phones at airport security. The time has come for Arizona residents to travel through Phoenix.

People with an Arizona ID can use a digital version of their Apple wallet to verify their identity at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.

The announcement marks a significant milestone in the effort to improve airport security.

Phoenix is the first airport this year to allow the feature.

There are a few things to consider before you leave for the airport. Only Arizona residents who have their ID uploaded on their phone or watch can use it. It's only available to PreCheck passengers, so if you've been on the fence about committing to PreCheck, it might be the extra boost you've been waiting for. The ability for those without PreCheck will come soon, according to the press release.

The third thing to keep in mind is the fact that all travelers, even those who meet the first two requirements, must continue to carry and have readily available their physical driver's license or identification card.

It is still more convenient to have it all on your phone if you have a good portable charge.

Passengers can use their phones or watches to get a digital ID. You can go past security to the amazing dining options at Phoenix Sky Harbor if the TSA agent confirms your information.

People outside of Arizona might not have to wait long. Georgia, Connecticut, Kentucky, Iowa, Maryland, Oklahoma, and Utah are among the additional states listed by Apple.
