The all-electric Genesis G90, the all-electric Niro, and the all-electric Niro are all getting Apple's digital car keys. Apple added a key symbol next to all three vehicles in a list on its website, indicating support for the feature.
It is not clear when Apple first updated the list or if the feature is available on any of the cars. There hasn't been an official announcement from Apple or a car company yet, so there may be more steps involved. Apple's digital car keys have been integrated by the two Genesis brands. The partnership with Genesis will create a phone-based digital car key for its own.
The company will have more information about digital keys in the coming weeks, according to a spokesman.
Apple's digital car keys, which let users lock orunlock their cars by holding their Apple Watch or iPhone near the car's door handles or when in close proximity to the car, were previously only supported by BMW. It is possible to lock and unlock a car with your phone in your pocket or purse if the car supports the ultra wideband (UWB) technology in the iPhone 11 and later. If supported by the vehicle, users can use digital keys to start their cars.
Apple's digital car keys are part of the company's broader push to minimize the number of items you carry. Today, Apple announced that users in Arizona can use their Wallet to carry their driver's license or state ID, and plans to expand this feature to a number of other states in the near future. Users who stay in select Hyatt hotels can get their rooms unlocked with a digitally-stored key.
