Brittney Griner's detention in Russia extended to May 19 (0:34)

According to the Russian news agency, the detainer of the basketball player has been extended to May 19. There is a time and a place.

A State Department spokesman told CNN that officials from the U.S. were able to visit with the basketball player in Russia for the first time on Wednesday and that she was in good condition.

She has been in custody since February 17 for attempting to smuggle a product into Russia. The US State Department said that Russian officials were denying them access to two American men who are in custody.

A source close to her said last week that they knew she was OK after communicating with her family through her Russian attorneys.

State Department spokesman Ned Price told CNN that officials were trying to make sure she was treated fairly as she worked her way through the Russian legal system.

The person is currently in detainment. The investigation period was extended by a judge to May 19 and experts say it's likely prosecutors will seek another extension. Russian law requires prosecutors to bring her to trial in exceptional cases within 18 months.

The two Americans who have been in custody for more than two years have been named Paul and Trevor Reed. State Department officials did not respond to a question about whether members of the U.S. consulate in Moscow had been able to visit them.
