Ikea's new $65 Vappeby speaker lamp is the first speaker in the world to feature one-touch access to the app on your phone.
The Vappeby seems to be built to replace a camp lantern, with a rechargeable battery, an integrated light, and resistance to rain, but definitely not for a dip in a pool. It comes with a cable to charge it, but not a wall brick.
The most novel addition is support for the Spotify Tap. The power button on the Vappeby will pick up the music from wherever you left off after you set up Tap in the Spotify app. If you tap it again, it will show you a recommendation from the app based on your listening habits.
The Vappeby doesn't offer much in the way of smart features. The light is just a regular light and there is no smart home integration with either Ikea or Apple. The speaker is just a regular speaker, with no option to double as a power bank or any fancy pairing.
The Ikea Vappeby is available in blue and gray.
