The Mayor of London has issued a high pollution alert for the U.K. capital, telling people with lung and heart problems to avoid physical activity.

The high pollution alert was issued Tuesday and covers March 23 and 24. It is the first since August 2020.

I'm urging Londoners to look after each other by choosing to walk, cycle or take public transport, avoiding unnecessary car journeys, stopping engine idling and not burning wood or garden waste, all of which contributes to high levels of pollution.

He said that the above was important in order to protect those who are more vulnerable to high pollution.

Air pollution is a global problem. 4.2 million deaths happen each year as a result of exposure to ambient air pollution, according to the World Health Organization.

Air pollution in London has become a topic of discussion. The Ultra Low Emission Zone London-wide was announced earlier this month, after Khan asked Transport for London to consult on it.

In October of last year, the UlEZ was expanded to cover a quarter of London and is open seven days a week.

Most vehicles that don't meet a specific set of emissions standards have to pay a daily charge.

If you pay in 14 days, the charge for non-compliance will be reduced to 80. The Congestion Charge zone is only in central London and costs fifteen dollars a day.

The Low Emission Zone in London applies to heavy vehicles that don't meet its standards. These vehicles don't have to pay the Ulee. Most of Greater London is covered by the LEZ.
