The company is hiring for a new home theater project that will give you more control from the couch, and it is known for its whole- home audio systems and its soundbars. Protocol reported that a new Home Theater OS project was being revealed in new Sonos job postings.

The Head of Partnerships, Home Theatre position is the most revealing job posting.

The Head of Partnerships for our Next Generation Sonos Home Theater OS will play a pivotal role in connecting users to the content and services they love with Sonos quality experiences they’ve come to expect.

Protocol states that Nick Millington, chief innovation officer at Sonos, promoted his position to Head of Partnerships, Home Theatre on LinkedIn.

TheUX Lead, Next Generation Home Theater Experience is a position that requires someone with a proven track record in TV, digital content creation, and advertising. It requires at least eight years of experience to design user interface for mobile and TV.

Sonos would be taking on TV streaming systems like Roku

Content comes in many forms and from many different sources according to the job description of the UX Lead. The company mentions in the description that it has an opportunity to grow its product offerings and that it will be able to meet user needs.

According to the Protocol report, the company pursued an alternative solution where the company's audio hardware could be embedded into a partner manufacturer's TV set and provide a branded audio system experience. We received a statement from the company after we contacted them for comment on their apparent home theater TV interface goals.

“As a leader in Home Theater audio, we will continue to innovate and create products and experiences that make listening simpler and more joyful, bringing you closer to the music and content you love. We don’t have anything further to share today.”

It's the next logical step for Sonos, as companies like Roku already have TV streaming experiences in their soundbars. The end- user experience of the app is centered around the audio products, controlling personal music libraries and providing a central way to control music apps, including Apple Music.

There are already a lot of TV streaming systems like Apple TV, Fire TV, and others. If there is a company that is poised to enter the TV space, it is Sonos, and all it has to do is park a new Home Theater OS into its Beam soundbar.
