A quick Google search of WWE 2k20, the newest video game offering from the typically well-received 2k Sports franchise, results in downright pandemonium.

Here are just a few headlines around the web pertaining to WWE 2k20, released on October 22, as # FixWWE2k20 trended worldwide within 24 hours of its now ill-fated debut:

    t
  • "WWE 2k20 is Broken in Every Possible Way"-Kotaku
  • t
  • "This Is Not How Wrestling Ring Ropes Work, WWE 2K20"-Deadspin
  • t
  • "WWE 2k20 Is a Glitch-Filled Disaster"-Sports Illustrated
  • t
  • "WWE 2k20 is a horror movie of a mess"-SB Nation
  • t
  • "WWE 2k20 Fans say it's a Huge Mess"-Polygon
  • t
  • #FixWWE2k20 Campaign Trending on Social Media Following Buggy Launch"-IGN

And that's just the short list.

The aforementioned Kotaku described 2k20 as a game with "freezing and crashing glitches, rampant animation problems, missing fan-favorite modes like Create A Championship, missing features like online wrestler entrances and online user-created arenas, online lag, truly unfortunate character models for high-profile stars like The Rock and John Cena, nightmare hair, a create-a-character face scan feature that gives life to cosmic horror slug monsters, and a glitch that causes clones of wrestlers to dot the ring as though summoned by an irate Naruto."

Mirroring the declining popularity of WWE, and pro wrestling for that matter, first-week sales for the WWE 2k series have fallen in each of the past five years. WWE 2k has seen a precipitous 37% plummet from WWE 2k15 (with first-week sales of 577,195 units) to WWE 2k19, which had first-week sales of 364,738 units.

Judging by the radioactive outrage surrounding the release of WWE 2k20, one can safely assume that trend will violently continue.

To make matters worse, WWE Hall of Famer Edge has been dragged into this mess as some fans did not receive their promised autographs from the former world champion as part of a $130 commemorative WWE 2k20 plaque.

Edge vowed to set up a P.O. Box to make this right.

The classy tweet from a classy pro wrestler may have been the nicest gesture pertaining to WWE 2k20 on all of Twitter.

The relationship between WWE and 2k Sports has been one of the few consistent positives of the wrestling giant's polarizing empire, with 2k Sports acting as somewhat of a liaison to facilitate the WWE returns of blockbuster names such as Goldberg, Sting and the late Ultimate Warrior.

But with WWE plagued by criticisms of disorganization amid an ugly ending to WWE Hell in a Cell and that mess of a WWE Draft, the promotion's seemingly snake-bitten execution has spilled into its gaming division.

With resident gaming expert Xavier Woods currently on the mend from an Achilles tendon injury, he'll have plenty to talk about on his popular UpUpDownDown YouTube channel should the powers that be allow him to come anywhere near this budding controversy.
