The MMGY Travel Intelligence report states that the Russian attack on Ukraine is making some in the industry nervous. The report surveyed hundreds of U.S. travelers who planned to visit Europe during the war to understand its impact on traveler sentiment and behavior.

Concerns about the war in Ukraine spreading to nearby countries was cited by 62 percent of U.S. travelers as a factor impacting their plans to travel to Europe. 47 percent of travelers want to wait and see how the situation in Ukraine develops before they go to Europe this year. 50 percent of respondents said they were concerned about possible delays and cancellation of flights, trains and cruises.

Italy is the most popular destination for those surveyed, followed by France, the UK and Germany.

The travel sentiment was initially suggested by survey instruments during the crisis, but it turned out to be much more positive during the progression of COVID-19. There is a chance that this reaction could repeat itself with the current situation. It is time for travel providers to remind consumers of flexible cancellation and rebooking policies in order to address this hesitancy around European travel.
