Kremlin spokesperson says Putin would use nuclear weapons in face of 'existential threat'

If Putin felt that his country was being threatened, he would use nuclear weapons.

Peskov told Christiane Amanpour that Putin was trying to send a message with his threat to use nuclear arms.

He said that President Putin intends to make the world listen to and understand their concerns.

Putin ordered his country's nuclear forces to be on high alert. He warned that any country that interfered with his designs would be in for a rude shock and that Russia would respond in kind.

Peskov wouldn't rule out the use of nuclear weapons.

He said that the public can read all the reasons for nuclear arms to be used.

Russia would use nuclear weapons in response to the use of nuclear weapons or other unconventional arms against Moscow or its allies, according to a 2020 statement on Russia's nuclear policy signed by Putin.
