Lightcycles battling in Tron Legacy.

Five years ago this month, news broke that Disney was looking to continue the Tron franchise with an actor. Not much has happened since then. There are a few quotes about a script, a working title, but nothing set in stone. The project has left the grid completely. The star says that's not the case.

Leto told Screenrant that he is a fan of the computer game, and that he is working with Disney on the project. We are getting closer. Who knows, we are getting closer and closer. Something may be coming sooner than later.

Which sounds promising! It wasn't until you realized that the start of tron 3 didn't start with Leto. The film was leaked months before it was released. When the film was a moderate success, work on the sequel faded a bit. Things took off after two years. Until they didn't. Five years have passed since the Leto news.

Maybe that is the right amount of time. Maybe a decade or three between them will allow technology to keep up with the times and allow each film to look and feel modern. The biggest problem with this particular time gap is the fact that the music of Daft Punk, which is still a favorite among film and electronic music fans alike, broke up in 2021. That is a big blow to a project that has had a lot of speed bumps.

If you're curious about the history of the movie, you can go to this link and see a timeline of all the times it has started and stopped. Add this to the mix.
