It is possible that an advanced alien civilization has created a transportation network of wormholes around the universe, and we might be able to spot them.

According to a new piece by Science Focus, it has some scientists intrigued. Fumio Abe, an astronomer at Nagoya University, told the publication that we may have already captured evidence of a network in existing observations, but lost them in the sea of data, leading to the intriguing prospect that reanalyzing old observations could lead to a breakthrough.

If the wormholes have throat radii between 100 and ten million kilometers, it is possible to detect them by reanalyzing past data.

It suggests one more pathway to figure out if humans are alone in the universe.

wormholes are tunnels with two ends at different points in time and space. We don't know if they could actually exist, if a sufficiently advanced civilization would be capable of producing them, and so on.

It would take a lot of energy to create a wormhole.

It would take a lot of energy and repulsive gravity to hold each mouth open in a wormhole. The idea is that if the aliens have created a network of wormholes, they might be able to see it.

It has been used to detect thousands of distant exoplanets and stars by detecting how they bend light.

Our only other shot at detecting life elsewhere in the universe is spotting wormholes. Science Focus pointed to the search for theoretical megastructures that harness the energy of a star by fully enclosing it, or atmospheric chemicals linked to human pollution, which could theoretically lead us to discover an extraterrestrial civilization.

The ability to travel over vast stretches of space and time is something that could be given to an alien civilization.

They are not much more than a thought experiment for now.

There are signs of alien technology that could lead to extraterrestrial life.

A new paper claims that you could climb through a wormhole to a distant star.
