Using completely real crowds in Hollywood productions can be a huge logistical challenge. That's why movies and TV shows have found many ways to make crowds look bigger than they are. Older movies like "Ben-Hur" used matte paintings, while movies like "Glory Road'' have used inflatable extras. Today, duplication and CGI are the most frequently used techniques. On the Apple TV+ series "Ted Lasso," Barnstorm VFX had the daunting challenge of filling a 26,000-seat stadium using a mix of real and fake people. As Barnstorm VFX supervisor Lawson Deming told us, it's the mix of the two that best convinces the viewer. Thanks to Barnstorm VFX for speaking with us and providing footage from "Ted Lasso" and "Insecure." • Some of the trends that are on the rise are fading out.

  • Homeowners are predicted to use sculptural sofas and gallery walls to make a statement.

  • Open-concept kitchens and large floor mosaics are not trendy this season.

There is a natural vibe to this material.

Jonathan Miller told Insider that rattan is back in this season.

This classic 70s material is being revived with straighter lines and darker stains.

A mid-century modern design mixes well with the organic feel of rattan.

Storage is taking over.

According to Murphy, built-in storage is a major design trend this season.

Murphy said that specialty cabinets are no longer just for the kitchen and bathroom.

You can install systems such as low wall cabinets that can double as seating or swap freestanding bookshelves for built-in shelving if you choose to do so.

British revival is the latest look.

Miller told Insider that using a mix of classic and modern British-style elements is definitely in vogue this season.

Miller said that British revival is in. She said she is seeing a lot of furniture with chintz fabric, a type of cloth with a glazed finish.

Think of bold floral wallpaper, chintz curtains, and upcycled furniture to nail this look.

You can match your wall and trim color.

Tone-on-tone wall colors, where the interior paint is the same color as the trim, are making a splash this season.

Murphy said that the look provides dramatic impact and a moodier aesthetic to a room by making the textiles and accessories pop.

Murphy said to choose a dark color like navy blue, deep purple, or black if you want to maximize the drama.

The gallery-wall trend is still going strong.

A gallery wall can wake up a bare area with a collection of art.

Miller said that the gallery walls look best when done with coordinating frames.

Adding shelving for pottery or sculptures will give depth to the gallery wall.

Sculptural sofas are popular this spring.

According to Miller curved, sculptural sofas are in high demand.

Miller said that the soft edges and deep seats of the sofa made it an inviting place to sit.

If you want to add a curved sofa to your living space, make sure the rest of your decor creates a sense of balance.

The large floor mosaics are out of order.

The trend of large floor mosaics in place of tile is fading.

Murphy said that large floors covered in busy mosaic tiles are out.

Sometimes mosaics look over the top, but also the lines are hard to clean.

The design trend of shiplap is tired.

For years, shiplap has been a trendy design material, with nautical-inspired panels used on everything from backsplashes to fireplaces.

The texture on walls and ceilings is still great, but it is time for a different look this spring.

Instead, you can use reeded panels, a board and batten design, or even install shiplap vertically for a modernized look.

Warm tones are in.

Cool-gray and white colors are being replaced by cozier colors.

Murphy said thatGray and white with its cool purple and blue undertones are over and done.

Murphy suggested replacing stark-white and gray colors with softer and wood tones.

The farmhouse look is old.

The modern farmhouse has officially come and gone so you can say goodbye to sliding barn doors and furniture made from old pallets.

Miller said it was easy to fall out of love with a style when you see it every day.

If you want to keep rustic decor authentic and modern, try using a few locally-sourced vintage or thrifted pieces.

The open-concept kitchens are no longer popular.

Open-concept kitchens, which combine cooking areas with dining or living spaces, are not always ideal.

The Pandemic made us value private, separate spaces in our homes.

Adding a half-wall or using screen partition to break up a kitchen and living space is a good way to do it.

Dining rooms are being renovated.

Many people transformed their formal dining rooms into flexible living and working spaces with the rise of remote work.

The dining rooms are now used daily for multiple purposes, and people are making them into flexible and adaptive spaces.

A collapsible table that can be tucked away when not in use is a great option if you aren't ready to completely eliminate your dining room.
