Sky Sports News has been told by the football associations in the UK and Ireland that they will be confirmed as joint hosts of Euro 2028 later this week.
The deadline is Wednesday for nations to express their interest with the organization.
If the UK and Ireland are the only option on the table, they will be confirmed as hosts on April 7.
The proof of government support and funding is due later this year.
Italy looked like they would have the stiffest competition as hosts, but now it looks like they will bid for the next Euros in 2032.
Due to the ongoing atrocities in Ukraine and the country's exile from global sport, a planned bid from Russia is not feasible.
Turkey could make a bid before the deadline, but it is thought that no bid is likely.
The FA wanted to host the World Cup in 2030 and commissioned a feasibility study that looked at a possible bid for the Euros in 2028.
The feasibility study was fast-tracked so that a decision could be made on whether to submit a bid.
The English, Scottish, Welsh, Irish and Northern Irish FAs were thought to be a good chance of being given the nod for 2028 because of the increase in the number of teams.
The home nations and Ireland felt they could offer a strong case if the tournament was expanded.
