The demand for travel has arrived, according to the American Express Travel president.

Customers are eager to book. They want to travel again, and are booking trips with more purpose than ever before.

The report was compiled from online poll data. Both respondents are interested in traveling this year and spending more money.

According to the poll, a majority of respondents are willing to book a trip even if it requires modifications down the road. Sixty two percent of people plan on taking at least two trips this year.

More than 70% of respondents plan to spend more on domestic travel than they did last year.

More people are taking multiple trips, booking windows are longer and international travel is back, according to the data.

February was American Express Travel's biggest month ever. Global bookings were up in the fourth quarter of the year.

She said that booking windows were short a year ago.

People booking further out is great because it shows their sentiment, planning and being intentional.

In the first two months of the year, more than 40% of bookings were for travel more than 30 days out. Only 30% of bookings were for travel more than 30 days away in November and December of that year.

The shift is a nice one, Hendley said.

At this time last year, 39% of U.S. travelers' bookings were for international travel. The number is now at 61%.

London, Paris, Miami, New York and Los Angeles were the top destinations for U.S. travelers in January. London and Paris were the top two, followed by New York, Los Angeles and Miami.

London was the fifth most popular destination according to American Express Travel bookings. New York, Los Angeles, Miami and Dallas were close by.

Travelers are more flexible today due to more liberal change and cancellation policies from suppliers.

We have a lot of interest and a lot of demand for summer travel into the fall, so I'm hopeful that continues.
