Human Torch as seen on the cover of Marvel Comics #1.

Some of the most valuable comics come to mind when you talk about them. The first appearance of Superman, Batman, and Spider-Man in comic books are likely. A lesser-known but influential comic just sold for big bucks, and this particular version has something even those don't have.

August 1939 is when the comic book in question was published. It was the first comic book ever published by Timely Comics, a company that would eventually become Marvel Comics. The release came after the debut of many famous DC characters. Human Torch and the Sub-Mariner are still recognizable to most comic book fans.

The New York Times reported that a 9.2 graded copy of the comic book was sold on the auction site ComicConnect for over $2 million to an anonymous buyer. This one is even more special because it is less expensive than some of the other comics that can sell for over $3 million. The comic was discovered in the 90s and was once owned by a company called Funnies Inc., which sold artwork to comic book publishers.

You can read more about the sale in the New York Times, but if you don't have a lot of money, you can get the comic for just $2.
