A litter of puppies was found in a box at an outdoor flea market and are being cared for by the sPCA.

Lindsay Sanator of the MCSPCA said that a box containing nine puppies was found at the flea market three weeks ago.

The litter was recovered by the shelter's Animal Control.

Sanator said the puppies were about 24 hours old and still had their umbilical cords attached to them.

They all had a lack of energy or dehydration.

Sanator said that the pup suffered multiple skull fractures and lacerations to the head and ears as a result of blunt force trauma.

Nancy Blaney, director of government affairs for the Animal Welfare Institute, said that there is never any excuse for the kind of cruel treatment that has been inflicted on the puppies. Help is available if resources are an issue.

The shelter's Law Enforcement division is still looking into the cases.

Anyone with information about either case is asked to call the animal welfare organization or the prosecutors office.
