It would be safe to say that Baker Mayfield was already at a low point heading into the off-season. The low point of his career is probably down to the floor now that he has been replaced by Deshaun Watson. The civil suits are still pending despite the criminal charges being dropped. Cleveland decided to take the plunge and trade a lot of draft capital for him.
We heard last week that Baker wanted to be traded to the Indianapolis Colts. The organization pulled off the deal after initially denying the request.
Baker Mayfield, the No. 1 overall pick, needs a new team and a new ad campaign.
The Colts are a good fit for him, but that doesn't mean the Browns will trade him for him just because he's his first choice. The Browns are going to do whatever they feel is in the best interest of winning by trading for him. They didn't consider anyone else's feelings there, so it's doubtful they'll give any favors to him on his way out. The Colts have a very good running game and offensive line. They will need to offer the best deal on the market if they want to land him.
Another team that has been mentioned as a possible landing spot is the Seattle Seahawks. If they want an upgrade from Drew Lock, Seattle has the draft picks needed. It still feels weird to say Drew Lock, QB of the Seattle Seahawks, would be a better option once he is healthy next year. This could be a possibility because the Seahawks probably wouldn't need to give up a first-round pick for him.
The offensive line has had issues for a couple of years, and the running game hasn't been strong. If Seattle is willing to give up the loot Cleveland wants, then it could happen. Now that Russell Wilson has left the building for Denver, he would be the favorite to start.
The Falcons are moving on from Matt Ryan and could be a potential trade partner for the Browns. The Falcons don't have an heir apparent lined up yet, so he could be a good stop-gap for the next couple of years. Kyle Pitts is a young, dynamic tight end that would make a great safety blanket.
The Saints could be another option for the quarterback, with Jameis Winston still on the free-agent market and recovering from a tornACL. New Orleans needs a quarterback, but it is more of an outside shot right now. I'm not sure Carolina will want to give up draft assets for a quarterback. When he's healthy, he's an upgrade over Sam Darnold, or any of the other quarterbacks who were trotted onto the field last season.
Baker's days in Cleveland are done wherever he lands. It is just a matter of when they can find him a new home. It sounds like it will happen soon. Hopefully, he can get healthy enough to show the world he can still be the quarterback he sees himself as.
