South Korea is going ahead with plans to open the country to travelers despite a record number of infections.

South Korea's cultural output has crossed borders in recent years through K-Pop groups like Blackpink and SuperM, as well as the multi-Oscar winning movie Parasite.

Since the beginning of the Pandemic, its borders have been closed to tourists and strict entry rules have only recently started to ease. In February, the government reduced the period from 10 to seven days, and from April 1, the period will be entirely for vaccine arrivals.

International tourists will be able to visit South Korea without a visa if they are vaccine free. The United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and more are all countries that this applies to. Visitors from Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, and Myanmar will not be allowed to leave the country for seven days.

If you plan to go to South Korea this year, you will need to get a booster shot if you have not had a vaccine in 180 days. It is 180 days after your second shot or the one-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

The tourism board says that you will have to apply for a QR code which will be scanned at immigration. South Korea has a Q-Code system that you can use to get that.

South Korea used to be one of the world's success stories in fighting the disease. South Korea is battling record numbers of new cases.

The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency said the Omicron variant was driving the record wave of infections. According to the New York Times, the country recorded its highest number of daily infections since the beginning of the Pandemic.

The government requires people to wear facemasks in public places and on public transport. The need to present proof of vaccination to enter places like restaurants, cinemas and theaters has been suspended.

The curfew limits will be relaxed in the coming weeks. Under the current guidelines, restaurants, cinemas, karaoke rooms and bathhouses must close at 11 pm.
