The New Orleans Saints brought back Jameis Winston after missing on Deshaun Watson.
According to a source, the Saints agreed to a two-year deal with Jameis Winston with a base value of $28 million.
The Saints were one of four teams that were interested in acquiring him.
In his first year as a starter for the New Orleans Saints, quarterback Jameis Winston tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and suffered a season-ending injury.
The former No. 1 overall draft pick had a career-high passer rating with the Saints last season, completing 95 of 161 passes for 1,170 yards, 14 touchdown and three interceptions. He ran for 166 yards and one touchdown.
Although he averaged 186 passing yards in his six games, he still flashed his big-play ability with four completions of 49-plus yards. He proved that he could overcome the turnover issues that plagued him during his first five seasons in the NFL.
As a starter, he completed 61.3% of his passes for 19,737 yards and 131 total touchdown, including 10 rushing. He lost 23 fumbled balls.
He was the first quarterback in NFL history to throw at least 30 touchdown passes and 30 interceptions in the same season, and he was the leader in the league with 5,109 passing yards.
When the Saints were looking for a backup quarterback, they chose to join forces with Jameis Winston, who was a backup to Drew Brees. A one-year deal that was worth just $1.1 million was signed by the quarterback because he wanted to attend Harvard.
Before the 2020 season, the Saints signed another one-year deal with quarterback Jameis Winston that included up to $7 million in incentives and $5.5 million in guarantees. He won the starting job in the preseason and was praised by the coach for his strength and leadership.
