Fans of Eddie Vedder, Pearl Jam, and space exploration will find this video very easy to understand. The musical performance was a tribute to the roll-out of the fully-stacked Space Launch System at the NASA Kennedy Space Center in Florida. It is guaranteed to give you a great deal of emotion and even bring a tear to your eye.
The roll-out was part of a dress rehearsal for the launch of the Artemis 1 mission, which is scheduled to take place this May. On Thursday, March 17th, the fully-stacked SLS and Orion spacecraft emerged atop its mobile launch platform from the Vehicle Assembly Building.
They arrived at Launch Complex 39B at around 4:00 AM on Friday, March 18th. A time-lapse video of the roll-out can be seen below, and a full-length version is available on the internet. The musical tribute was produced by NASA and is available on NASA's Youtube channel.
The lyrics to Vedder's Invincibles are appropriate for the occasion. The crew and mission team are engaged in preflight checks before the liftoff. The mood is happy and there is no sense that something is going to go wrong.
Can you hear? Come in, radio, what's your story? Better crooked than straight?
It's particularly poignant what follows. Vedder uses vivid imagery to address the importance of Artemis and the future space exploration. He paints a picture of a world in conflict and a better future.
There is smoke on the horizon and the clouds are looking violent.
There is a theory for everything resurrection to the big ol' bang.
