Zegler expressed her gratitude for the support on Sunday, as outrage over her exclusion mounted online.
Zegler has been to most of the film award shows. At the British Academy Film Awards last week, she attended as fellow West Side Story star Mike Faist's date, but she was not nominated. Nominees and presenters are offered a pair of tickets, studios are allotted tickets, and the Academy frequently invites a select group of people, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The stars of nominated films are often given studio tickets. Zegler was cast in the remake of the musical when she submitted a video to an open call when she was in high school. Her first professional role was in the movie.
ABC will show the Oscars on Sunday. Amy Schumer and Wanda Sykes will be the hosts.
Ariana deBose is a leading contender to win Best Supporting Actress at the ceremony. She has won several awards for her performance. deBose is expected to attend.
Nobody else was invited. It's not clear if Elgort, who played Tony in the film, will attend the ceremony. After West Side Story was filmed, Elgort was accused of sexual assault, which he denied.
