According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the Atlanta Falcons have made trade calls about quarterback Matt Ryan.
The team is expected to make a decision by Monday. Ryan is scheduled to get a $7.5 million roster bonus. If he is not moved by the deadline, he will stay with the Falcons.
The roster bonus was supposed to be guaranteed on Friday, but the team delayed it while trying to trade for a quarterback. He was traded to the Cleveland Browns.
After failing to land him, the Falcons reportedly wanted to make Ryan feel wanted and kept him informed with an open line of communication.
He has spent his entire 14-year career in Atlanta. He has four Pro Bowl selections on his resume and finished last season just 32 passing yards short of his 11th straight year with 4,000 yards.
Atlanta has a losing record for the fourth straight year.
The Falcons could start fresh by dealing their 36-year-old franchise quarterback who has a $48.7 million cap hit in 2022, the highest mark in the NFL.
According to Anderson, the Seattle Seahawks made calls to the Falcons about Ryan.
A trade would not help Atlanta financially. After a trade, the team would have $40.5 million in dead cap.
With a draft class that is generally considered weak at quarterback, the best option for the Falcons would be to hang on to Ryan for another year.
