The omicron wave is on the decline in the U.S., as workers return to offices, hospital wards are emptying, and states have lifted mask mandates. The first three shots of Covid-19 provide protection against the new strain, but Pfizer and Moderna have asked the U.S. regulators to clear an additional booster.
The shots are less effective at preventing Covid infections due to the passage of time. The boosters people received late last year did help ward off some Covid infections during the most recent surge, but those may not be the final shots for those who want to stay ahead of this virus. He says the emergence of omicron strengthens his view.
