A developer has discovered that the Apple Studio display only has 2 gigabytes of onboard storage, which is less than 64 gigabytes.
The studio display only uses 2 gigabytes of internal storage, which is less than the 64 gigabytes of internal storage that is used by the rest of the world. The unused space is useless at the moment, but it is likely needed for a firmware update. The quantity of internal storage in the studio display has not been confirmed by apple.
Image via @KhaosTThe studio display has an A13 chip. The A13 Bionic was offered in the second generation of the iPad and the ninth generation of the iPhone. None of these devices have ever been available in a storage configuration below 64GB, which may suggest that smaller quantities of storage are incompatible with the A13's storage controller.
Economies of scale may also be a factor, with production costs for the A13 with a smaller amount of storage potentially costing more than the same 64GB system currently used in the ninth-generation.
The same 2.65 GHz A13 Bionic chip, 12MP Ultra Wide front-facing camera setup with Center Stage, and 64GB base configuration of storage are included in the studio display. The second-generation Apple TV 4K has a base storage configuration of just 32GB, but the Studio Display has better specifications.
It was revealed last week that the studio display runs the full version of the software used by the iPad and the iPhone.
