Lune is a new startup that wants to expose CO2 emissions calculations so that customers are better informed when they purchase something online. Customers can pay a fee to finance a carbon neutralization project when companies start using Lune's API.
Stadigh worked for a VC fund. Stadigh's previous employer Crane led a $4 million seed round for Lune. N26 co-founder Maximilian Tayenthal, Voi co-founder Fredrik Hjelm, OysterHR and Tony Jamous were among the business angels that participated in the round.
The way things work today is that companies create a report that is hidden away on the website and very few people read it.
The carbon impact is measured by the startup. Stadigh said that they offer automated carbon emission calculations and follow best practice guidelines.
Stadigh said that customers can pay a bit more to contribute to compensation projects once you integrate the API in your product.
Lune works with payment companies. Customers can choose a green payment method that will contribute to carbon offset projects when they check out.
Customers can either pay for the projects or pay an extra fee. Lune is talking with other payment partners to offer more integrations.
Lune takes a small cut on carbon offsetting transactions and charges based on the number of calculations. The startup wants to turn any company into a climate-friendly one.
The best way to reduce the carbon impact of a potential purchase is not to purchase a product at all. Customers could pick one company over another if you avoided a purchase.
