According to sources, Kansas State is expected to hire a long-time assistant of the Bears, Jerome Tang, to be its next men's basketball coach.
Sources said that Kansas State officials flew to Texas on Sunday to discuss the job with Tang.
Scott Drew and Tang have worked together for 19 years, and Tang is considered one of the best assistant coaches in the country.
Drew took over a program that was mired in scandal in 2003 and has led the Bears to one of the biggest comebacks in college sports history. The rebuilding effort paid off last season, as the program won its first national championship and advanced to the Final Four.
Since 2010, the Bears have been to five Sweet 16s, including three Elite Eights and last season&s title run. The Bears have won 81 games, two Big 12 regular-season titles and earned a 1-seed in each of the past two seasons.
Tang was the head coach at Heritage Christian Academy for 10 seasons.
Bruce Weber resigned from his position earlier this month. Kansas State had five NCAA tournaments and an Elite Eight appearance under Weber's watch. Over the past three seasons, the Wildcats went 34-58.
