The final few weeks of the season feel like they are about to go toe to toe, and with so much at stake.
They are the two best teams in the country and they have been for a few years now with the highest standards.
Their consistency has been amazing and they both have a chance of taking all three major trophies that are still up for grabs.
You don't know what the starting XI for the Reds is going to be, particularly in the front areas, and you can't predict what the City boss is going to do when he picks his team.
I am looking forward to all the games that both sides have to play, but especially when they play each other in the next few weeks.
We know that will happen in the FA Cup semi-finals at Wembley the following weekend, as well as in the premier league at the Etihad Stadium on 10 April. There is a chance that the final of the European club competition will be on 28 May.
It is great to see. If you love football, you love watching the best teams go head to head on big occasions like these, with all the quality and intensity on the pitch and the pressure that comes with it.
It is the little details that will decide the big moments when two great teams meet.
You want games like that to be settled by a bit of genius, but it could be a mistake if one person switch off and lose concentration on a set-play.
Right now, it seems less likely that they will do that. The fact that the Reds are not conceding goals at the moment helps them get the job done when they don't play well.
They have a brilliant goalkeeper in Alisson who is on the top of his game, and some quality defenders too, but it is also because they are on a run where it feels like everything is going their way.
When you know you are getting the rub of the green in a game, you go on and win, even if the opposition misses big chances or decisions.
It will add to the feeling that it's their time for the players when they see that happen. That is how I would describe the way City are looking.
After cutting their deficit to City in the league to one point, they are in the semi-finals of the FA Cup and have a favorable draw against Benfica in the last eight of the European competition. The confidence around the stadium must be great.
Liverpool | Man City | |
Quarter-final | Benfica | Atletico Madrid |
Semi-final | Villarreal/Bayern Munich | Chelsea/Real Madrid |
The FA Cup semi-final will be treated differently by both teams because of the less pressure.
Both teams agree that the trophy is the least important of the three, since City have won plenty of them in the past few seasons.
My gut feeling is that the big ones will win one of them.
For some reason, and I don't know why, I think the Reds will win the league.
Whoever is top after that is going to be very hard to catch, and I don't see either team dropping many points elsewhere.
Even though it is a big ask for the Reds to go there and win, I think they will come out on top.
I think it will be City's year in the competition. You want to consistently go deep or go close in tournament football, whether it is elite club competition or at the top end of the international game.
You will win in the end if you do that.
If I am wrong and City end up empty-handed or just win the Carabao Cup, their season would be seen as a failure.
Not by me. If Manchester United finish outside the top two in the league, it will be a bad season for them.
It would be devastating but, to use an extreme example, if City orLiverpool finished runners-up in the FA Cup, it would be close to perfect.
For both of them, getting this far means that their squad has been playing at a consistently excellent level for the whole season and that they have been competing at the top of European football.
It has been a very good season for both City and Liverpool, but it could turn out to be a very special one.
