South Dakota decided to join in on the fun hours after Iowa was stunned by Creighton.

The second 10-seed upset of a 2-seed on the day was the result of the 61-47 win by the Coyotes over the Bears. The Bears had made the Sweet 16 12 times in a row, the fourth-longest streak in NCAA tournament history.

After a strong surge at the end of the regular season and in the Big 12 tournament, where her team fell in the championship game to Texas, she concludes her first season at the helm with a 28-7 record.

NaLyssa Smith had 10 points on 4-for-11 shooting in the loss.

The Bears were the first top two seeds to lose in the first two rounds of the tournament. Maryland and Arizona State lost in the second round. The last time two double-digit seeds made the Sweet 16 was in the year of Central Michigan and Buffalo.

South Dakota advances to the first Sweet 16 in school history. South Dakota State made it to the second weekend of the tournament for the second time, making it to the Sweet 16 in 2019.

South Dakota, which upset 7-seed Ole Miss in the first round, led for all but the first 32 seconds of the game.
