The Elizabeth line is a new railway that runs from east to west across London. It is the first underground railway line in the city since 1979.

I went for a ride on the train and a tour of the central stations on the Elizabeth line. Paddington is one of London's major train stations that opened in 1854.

The tallest building in London could fit inside if it were laid flat, according to Mark Wild.

There are artistic details inside some stations. The commissioner of Transport for London said that Paddington Station had clouds printed on the glass ceiling, representing every type of cloud in the sky.

It cost 1 million dollars per meter to build the tunnel between the Elizabeth line and the Bakerloo line at Paddington Station.

The trains had to stop running for two hours because of a glitch in the radio system. There are still quirks that need ironing out with the railway.

When a train arrives, the tunnels are separated from the platform by glass panels. The air in the station is cooler than the air in the tunnels. Most underground trains in London are not air-conditioned. The new line is powered by more than 1,500 kilometers of cable.

The trains on the Elizabeth line were spacious and bright. The carriages were 1.5 times bigger than the tube trains.

I was able to have a conversation with other people on the train because it was not loud like other underground transport systems. It was a smooth ride, unlike other journeys I have taken on the tube which are often bumpy.

Wild said that he got a good view of the journey through the tunnels, which are up to 40 meters underground.

The 42 km of new rail tunnels below London were created using eight machines. The tunnel gangs worked in shifts to create the winding routes between 2012 and 2015.

The full route of the Elizabeth line will stop at 41 stations, 10 of which are newly built.

The Elizabeth line trains run from towns east of London, passing through the heart of the city, and on to commuter hubs to the west. Twelve trains arrived at each station every hour during trials.

My journey from Paddington to Canary Wharf took 18 minutes. The trip using the existing railway network would take around 30 minutes.

The Elizabeth Line takes 38 minutes to travel from Canary Wharf to Heathrow Airport, at the cost of a tube fare. The journey takes around an hour.

It has taken almost 200 years for a proposal to create a train from east to west to come to fruition.

The cost of the project has risen to 18.9 billion, but it is still needed to finish it. He said that the company is still figuring out how to pay for the additional costs.

Over 100 million liters of water was pumped out of the station box, enough to fill 40 Olympic-sized swimming pools.

More than 63,000 sleepers and 51,419 meters of rail were installed as part of the line. According to the website, that is enough to fill several Olympic sized swimming pools.

In Vienna, parts of the new trains were tested under extreme weather conditions.

Wild said trial runs will end on March 28. Ghost runs without passengers will take place before the line is fully operational in June.
