Nintendo Wii Wiimote Stock 1020

According to a report from Eurogamer, the Nintendo Wii and DSi Shop channels have been offline for several days. The Nintendo shops were down for as long as March 16th.

A video from GameXplain shows exactly what happens when you select the Wii Shop channel, you will see a blank white screen, followed by an error code indicating network problems. GameXplain uses the store to access the channel on the Wii and the Wii U. The DSi Shop has an error code that indicates an inability to connect due to internet issues.

Nintendo stopped allowing players to make purchases on the Wii Shop channels. Nintendo allows players to download previously purchased games from both stores. When Nintendo first announced that the Wii Shop would be closing, it warned that players wouldn't be able to retrieve or transfer purchased games with the Wii System Transfer Tool at some point in the future, but never laid out a set date.

Some players are wondering if that time will come now. It's not clear whether the stores are down for maintenance or not. Nintendo didn't immediately respond to The Verge's request for comment.
