Scorecard

The second Test in Barbados ended in a draw as England tried to win for the first time.

After dismissing West Indies in the first two sessions, England took their fifth in the tea break to set up a tense final hour.

West Indies skipper Kraigg Brathwaite, who scored an 11-hour 160 in the firstinnings, survived 184 balls for 56 not out to deny England again.

The opener was the most prolific West Indies batter in Test history.

The West Indies were reduced to 39-3 by England before the right-handed Blackwood saw off 25 overs.

In the final session, Jack Leach had Blackwood caught for 27 and a duck, but Brathwaite and Joshua da Silva kept the runs coming.

The players shook hands with 13 minutes left in the game and the score was 135-5.

Both Tests in this series so far have ended in almost identical draws and the sides head to the final Test in Grenada, which begins on Thursday, with the series still level at zero.

Gruelling Test ends in draw

The Test has been long. The result was predicted from the second day and it ended with an admirable effort by England.

Their inexperienced bowling attack lacked the tools to prise out a batter who played brilliantly.

No England bowler has bowled as many balls in a Test since 1962, and that's because of the 94.5 overs that Leach took. There was genuine hope when he removed the two West Indies players who helped save the first Test.

Despite some good deliveries from Leach, Brathwaite always held firm.

Debutant Saqib Mahmood had Shamarh Brooks and Nkrumah Bonner caught in the slips in his first spell, but as the score went on and the ball softened, the seamers became useless. Dan Lawrence looked like he was going to take the last one.

England's poor run continues with their recent record now standing at one win in 16 Tests.

They chased the game with the bat in the morning, adding 145 runs for the loss of six wickets before declaring, and can take positives, while hoping for a surface with more life for the series decider.

Brathwaite's Test to remember

He can claim to be one of the most resilient hitters in the history of the West Indies.

He was solid in defence and was able to put the occasionally spinning balls from Leach out of his mind.

Brathwaite did not offer a chance despite the fact that he was down. He was able to get on the ball when rare balls were low.

Without Brathwaite, England would almost certainly have won the match.

West Indies have only lost one series at home against England. With one Test to play, their captain has given them a better chance of keeping that record.

England's second 'winning draw' - reaction

We picked off where we finished last week. We made a substantial first-innings total for the first time in a long time. Hopefully we can duplicate it again.

The West Indies captain is feeling good. I thought England played well.

We want a result in the last Test, but we put in a lot of effort. We have to see what they come up with, but we hope it has something for the pacers.

England dominated the game. It was their second draw of the series, but more consistent spin bowling might have won them the match. With a tour of Pakistan coming up next winter, that needs to be looked at. Overall, more positives than negatives.
