President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned that the assault on the city of Mariupol will be remembered.
The besieged Mariupol will go down in history for war crimes. Zelenskyy said in a video address on Telegram that the terror the occupiers did to the city will be remembered for a long time.
The city of Mariupol, located in southeast Ukraine, has been the subject of a brutal assault that has left waste to the city's homes, schools, and maternity hospitals. Many residents have been without food, water, or electricity for weeks.
Russian forces bombed a movie theater last week in the city where over 1,000 people were hiding. 130 people were rescued from the theater while 1,300 were still trapped. The number of casualties is not known.
Despite being agreed upon with the Russians, multiple attempts at humanitarian corridors and ceasefires have failed.
The more support we find, the more Ukrainians will tell the world about it. Zelenskyy said on Sunday that the consequences will be worse if Russia uses terror against Ukraine.
Estimates for the number of Russian military deaths vary. Over 15000 Russian soldiers have died, according to Zelenskyy. US intelligence estimated last week that 7,000 of the 150,000 Russian troops involved in the war had died.
The Ukrainian president said on Sunday that eight humanitarian corridors worked effectively on Saturday, allowing 6,623 people to be rescued.
He said that more than 4,000 Mariupol residents left for Zaporizhzhia.
