A former US Army general characterized Russia's army in Ukraine as poorly led and unmotivated.

The Russian army has been modernizing over the course of the last couple of decades, but they are poorly led.

Russia and Ukraine have been at war for more than three weeks.

More than 3 million Ukrainians have fled since the beginning of the invasion, according to the United Nations Refugee Agency. More than 1 million Ukrainians left in the first week.

Russian forces are attempting to take control of Kyiv. The city is under a curfew and soldiers are not allowed to leave after 8 pm.

In the event that they are drafted to fight in the war, some Ukrainian men chose to stay in the country. Serge Tiagniryadno told Insider that his family fled to Poland. He is staying in Kyiv because he is ready to protect it and he is not going to let anyone in.

The New York Times reported that Russian commanders did not tell their soldiers that they were going to war. Some soldiers were surprised to learn they would be going into war.

Their soldiers are not motivated. They haven't been able to get out of their vehicles and really kind of exercise and maneuver at a pace and with the momentum they demonstrated they have learned anything from their training and are now transitioning to a defensive posture.

They are at the end of their logistics and have transitioned to defense, which means they are vulnerable.
