Buying miles and points can represent a great value. There is a promotion on purchased miles. The first promotion we have seen from the program this year is not as good as some of the sales we have seen in the past. Up to a 20% discount on purchased miles will be offered through Sunday, March 27th. The discount is tiered. There are no taxes or fees when you purchase a mile from Etihad Guest. That is before any bonuses or discounts. If you maxed out the 20% discount, you would receive 100,000 Etihad Guest miles at a rate of 1.6 cents per guest mile. This isn't as good as the other offers we've seen from the program, including a 70% bonus in 2021. Before any bonuses, members are limited to 100,000 Etihad Guest miles per account. The exception is Etihad Guest Platinum members, who can purchase up to 150,000 miles per year before any bonuses. It can take up to 72 hours for them to post to your account, but they usually post much faster than that. The mileage purchases are not counted as airfare purchases for the purposes of credit card spending. I recommend using a credit card that maximizes your return on everyday spending if you're trying to reach minimum spending. The Capital One Venture rewards credit card has no foreign transaction fees and offers 2x miles. The Chase Freedom unlimited is a good option for maximizing everyday spending. For more on which credit cards are best for buying points, see this post. There are a number of good value ways to redeem Etihad Guest miles, since the airline doesn't belong to any of the global alliances. I wouldn't pick up the miles, but here are some of my favorite ways to redeem them. There are a lot of redemption opportunities. Everyone will value mileage differently, but personally I value the miles at 1.2 cents each. I value points conservatively, and there are many ways to get more value from guest miles. If you have at least some account activity once every 18 months, you can keep your guest miles. The expiration date of your miles would be reset if you earned or spent them. There are many other ways to earn miles, and the cost to purchase them here is attractive. If you have a credit card in the US, you can transfer your miles with Amex Membership Reward, Capital One, and Citi ThankYou. At a reasonable cost, some people may prefer to buy miles themselves. For those who don't have access to lucrative credit cards and/or who would rather pay 1.6 cents per mile than transfer points, buying Etihad Guest miles could be a good deal. The cost of 1.6 cents per mile is what the miles are selling for. It could be a good deal for premium cabin redemptions. I recommend only buying miles with a specific purpose in mind. Does anyone plan on buying guest miles with this offer?
