According to reports, Baker Mayfield wouldn't play for the Cleveland Browns in 2022, even before the team acquired Deshaun Watson.

According to cleveland.com's Mary Kay Cabot, Mayfield had no plans to play for the Browns next season and requested a trade Thursday.

The Houston Texans will get a first-round pick in 2022, a third-round pick in 2023 and a fourth-round pick in 2024, as well as a fifth-round pick in 2024.

According to the report, the trade talks with the Texans may have been revived after the Texans were told that they were no longer considering a trade to Cleveland.

While he is still on the roster, it is a foregone conclusion that he will be traded or released since he is in line to be the new starter and the other backup was signed Saturday.

A grand jury declined to indict him on sexual assault charges, but several teams entered the sweepstakes. There are 22 civil lawsuits filed against him by women who claim he engaged in sexual misconduct during massage sessions.

The following statement was released by Mayfield once it became clear that the Browns were interested in him.

It had the feeling of a goodbye message to the city of Cleveland, even though he didn't say he was done with the team.

He accomplished a lot during his time in Cleveland, but his departure is just a formality.

The No. 1 overall draft pick out of Oklahoma led the Cleveland Browns to their first playoff appearance in 14 years in 2020.

The Pittsburgh Steelers were defeated in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs.

He had a great bounce back from throwing a career-high 21 picks in the season before, and he completed 62.8 percent of his passes for 3,563 yards.

It should also be noted that in the voting for the NFL's offensive rookies of the year, he finished second, despite completing 64.3% of his passes for 3,725 yards, 27 touchdown and 14 picks.

It was widely assumed that he would earn a contract extension with a strong campaign, as there were high expectations for him.

He had an injury to his non-throwing shoulder and had to have surgery.

In 14 games, the young quarterback completed 60.5 percent of his passes for 3,010 yards, 17 touchdown and 13 interceptions, and the Cleveland Browns missed the playoffs with an 8-9 record.

There is a chance that he will get the chance to be a starter somewhere else.

It is likely that he will end up with one of the teams that have needs under center, such as the Indianapolis Colts, Seattle Seahawks, Carolina Panthers and New Orleans Saints.
