Scott won a bronze medal in the men's 3,000m at the World Athletics Indoor Championships.

The 28-year-old European indoor 5,000m record holder produced a superb final lap to finish in a season's best time of seven minutes 42.02 seconds.

Scott has never won a medal at a major championship.

Selemon Barega of Ethiopia won the gold medal in the 10,000m.

It is a great feeling. Scott said he wanted to do something for the British team.

There is a young squad out here. He wanted to show everyone that they can do it.

The race was choppy but I was prepared for anything. Over the last 200m, I displayed that I am very strong and quick as well. I knew it was a possibility and I am really happy to do it on a big stage.

Scott finished strong and moved past Ebenyo on the final bend, after Barega and Girma had pushed the pace throughout.

The British man missed out on a place in the Olympics last summer, but he is in fine form this year, and took 11 seconds off his own European indoor 5,000m record last month.

One of the things that propels you through the sport is self-belief. Scott said there was no reason why he shouldn't have self-belief.

I proved today that I deserve to be on the global stage. We will try and get more medals when there are three big championships coming up.
