Sources told Emily Kaplan on Saturday that Claude Giroux was traded to the Florida panthers.
Sources say that the return package will include Owen Tippett.
Giroux is a pending unrestricted free agent and was expected to be moved before the NHL's trade deadline on March 21. His no-movement clause was part of his contract.
Sources told Kaplan that the Florida offer was aggressive, but not as aggressive as Boston or Colorado.
Giroux could slot in next to Florida's star center, Aleksander Barkov, and take the potent offense up a notch. Giroux is one of the best faceoff players in the league.
Florida enters play Saturday night with the second-best record in the NHL, and has been one of the league's most dominant clubs all season.
It will be a change of pace for Giroux, given the abysmal year Philadelphia is having. TheFlyers are currently 29th overall and appear headed toward a significant organizational change. Giroux has 18 goals and 42 points in 57 games, showing he is still a valuable commodity.
Giroux will be playing for a team other than Philadelphia. He has spent his entire career with the club since being drafted 22nd overall in 2006 and played in his 1000th NHL game on Thursday.
The organization sorted through his many suitors and he was a healthy scratch for the game.
