Finn Sullivan flexed his muscles after forcing a backcourt turnover with 9 seconds to go. In the corner of KeyBank Center, Powell clapped toward the delirious University of Vermont basketball fans.

The ball was from Catamounts. Their deficit was two. Vermont's Cinderella hopes were still alive as the clock neared midnight.

UVM senior Ben Shungu said, "Just a moment like that, you obviously want it to go your way."

And then it stopped.

The Catamounts had a chance to tie the game at the buzzer, but Sullivan fumbled the ball out of bounds on the video replay.

Shungu said that it was overturned.

Vermont was sent packing at the end of the first day of the March Madness tournament after a rough winter and a belief that it could pull off an upset.

The America East Conference champion finished the season with a flourish.

UVM coach John Becker said he felt bad for the kids and for the program that they couldn't find a way to win. Unfortunately, we did not do that, but I am so proud of these kids and this team.

The UVM basketball team will be in the NCAA Tournament.

Ryan Davis and Ben Shungu are humble and driven at the NCAA Tournament.

They worked so hard. It hurts when there are a lot of guys that aren't going to be here because they were so good.

The Razorbacks will face New Mexico State in the second round of the NCAA tournament after they got the ball back after the break.

Stanley Umude had 21 points and nine boards and Jaylin Williams had 13 points and 10 boards for the Razorbacks, who made last year's Elite 8.

Just a lot of credit to Vermont. Arkansas coach Eric Musselman said they are well-coached. They play hard. They are a smart basketball team. They can shoot the three and present a lot of problems in preparation, but I thought our guys to a man stepped up big-time.

Shungu and Ryan Davis each had 20 points. The Cats got 13 points and nine boards from the man.

I think we are as close as can be, and we have shown we can do it.

We have proven that we are able to get back to here year after year, and that is something that is hard to do, but to get over that hump is something we have yet to do.

The Vermont men's basketball team made it to the NCAA Tournament.

Notae, the leading scorer, was held out of the game with two fouls, and Arkansas took a 34-27 halftime lead. The Notae drive started the second half with a nine-point margin.

UVM was back into contention. The America East player of the year scored eight points with a pair of triples to ignite a 12-0 run to give UVM its first lead.

Davis was not done. The forward made a jump hook in the lane for a 41-40 lead and then split two defenders in the paint for a 43-43 contest at the 13-minute mark.

Notae responded to Sullivan's corner triple with his own, and the UVM lead was short-lived.

The Catamount deficit was between one and four points until Notae's runner capped a mini 6-2 spurt for a 67-58 margin, matching its biggest advantage.

Notae had a huge second half. I don't think we win the game without him. Umude said that he knows that.

There was one more rally in the Cats.

Sullivan made 1 of 2 at the line after Notae was called for a travel with 29 ticks left to trim UVM's deficit to 71-68. Shungu rose for a wing 3-pointer to make it a 73-71 game, after Umude followed with a pair of foul shots.

Sullivan and Powell trapped Notae in the corner. The ball bounced out of bounds and the official initially called UVM possession. The review confirmed that Sullivan brushed against the ball on its way out.

The Catamounts lost because of the correct reversal. UVM made 10 of 17 at the line, while Arkansas made 20 of 25. UVM lost the rebound battle.

We wish we could have made better free throws. We wish we could have rebounded a little bit better at the end, but these guys left it all out on the court against a really, really good Arkansas team, Becker said.

The defensive change allowed Arkansas to hand-cuff Davis, who didn't take a field goal in the final 13 minutes.

Pick and roll coverage was changed. I thought they were picking us apart, and we tried to switch up our coverage in the first half so that they couldn't have a steady diet.

UVM got good looks from Davis and movement, but the Cats couldn't force Arkansas into enough empty possessions.

Do I wish he could have gotten more touches? Becker said that they couldn't get any stops. We were scoring. We scored more than they usually do. We couldn't get stops and then we couldn't get the rebound.

I can point out things on a box score, but they gave everything they had. I am proud of them.
